Jim Gilbert – Biography

Jim Gilbert is a lifelong public servant, devoted Christian, conservative Republican, and proud family man who has dedicated his life to serving others and strengthening his community. Elected to the Denham Springs City Council in 2022, Jim believes leadership begins with faith, integrity, humility, and a genuine commitment to people.

A native of Livingston Parish, Jim has spent decades actively serving his community through ministry, public service, emergency response, mentoring, and volunteer leadership. He is a spirit-filled Christian who has faithfully served in ministry as a youth worship leader, Sunday school teacher, and men’s ministry leader, helping guide and encourage others in their faith and personal growth. His passion for servant leadership has always been rooted in treating people with respect, listening to their concerns, and working together to make the community stronger.

Jim also devoted more than 16 years to Livingston Parish Fire Protection District #5, serving as a firefighter, captain, commissioner, and chairman of the board. His years in the fire service deepened his understanding of sacrifice, teamwork, and the importance of protecting and serving others during difficult times.

Family remains at the center of Jim’s life. He and his wife, Bridgette, share four children: Dylan, Drew, Victoria, and Lexie; two daughters-in-law, Rachel and Joanna; and their precious granddaughter, Izabela. Whether spending time with family, serving in the community, or helping neighbors, Jim values the close-knit relationships and small-town character that make Denham Springs special.

Professionally, Jim spent nearly four decades working in the petrochemical industry, including leadership roles with ExxonMobil, where he managed operations, supported training and safety initiatives, and led teams in high-accountability environments. In 2024, he retired from industry to pursue a greater focus on community service and public leadership, dedicating his time and experience to serving the people of Denham Springs and Livingston Parish.

Outside of public service, Jim enjoys hunting, fishing, kayaking, bicycling, and working on DIY projects. Known for his approachable personality and servant’s heart, he remains committed to serving his community with the same values that have guided him throughout his life: faith, family, integrity, and service to others.
